I read a great book, called "The 19th Wife" for those who are also interested....

Although, in regards to the show I'm not sure if Kody's hairstyle or lifestyle is more offenseive to me ;)Heather @ Glitter and Glosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14692574333822565833noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199102720083153979.post-44822335915536433262010-10-06T11:03:36.938-07:002010-10-06T11:03:36.938-07:00I rarely get into religious discussions, but I do ...I rarely get into religious discussions, but I do feel it necessary to note that polygamists are NOT Mormons. Like he said on the show, it's like calling a Catholic a Protestant. I enjoy these shows because if I want people to understand me, it's necessary for me to understand them. That's not to say I agree with them, but if you understand, it's easier to think of them as a fellow human being. Just remember, everyone has their reasons and to them it makes sense. Just like your reasons for your beliefs make sense to you.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01742802111036737768noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199102720083153979.post-57675062818474442632010-10-06T07:34:06.135-07:002010-10-06T07:34:06.135-07:00I watched the first episode too, thinking I would ...I watched the first episode too, thinking I would be drawn in, the same way I am with the Duggars. And I realized that while 19 kids is so far outside my comfort zone, I end up watching the Duggars and being inspired to be a better mom to my little ones. It is not weird to have 19 kids and watch them flourish. It is beautiful. So I watched the Sister Wives and this new kind of family with interest. I cringed as that man went from wife to wife and kissed them goodnight. I listened to what they had to say about their lives and could not believe what I was hearing. Jealousy is not a natural emotion that we should have to deal with day in and day out. Jealousy is a very destructive force in our lives. My husband has just one of me and I often don't feel like we are making enough time with each other, just imagine if there were three of me feeling like that. Then I got to thinking about that man and how he has a household with four incomes coming in to support everyone and he is being sexually serviced nightly. That is a huge payoff for him. What is the payoff for the wives? They still work hard every day, but they get a degree of maid and nanny services, Oh and as one of the wives said "I can go to a movie BY MYSELF if I want to and I always have someone to watch my kids." At the end of that show I was so sad for those women who serve one man, because according to their religion that is their was to heaven. I don't know if I can watch it again for the same reason I can't watch the Hoarding show. It is so tragic to see what is going on in the lives of these really nice people.

Can you tell that this show really got to me?Heathernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199102720083153979.post-25852226173023530742010-10-05T21:39:02.229-07:002010-10-05T21:39:02.229-07:00i just hard about this recently! i don't have...i just hard about this recently! i don't have cable anymore ... whah, whah, whahhhhh ...schronlisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07725792541593582560noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199102720083153979.post-83294943491662260112010-10-05T18:03:37.591-07:002010-10-05T18:03:37.591-07:00You know I love this show, too. I do say fascinating...I know the teachings are wrong and not part of God's plan, but I am just fascinated that anybody actually lives a polygamist lifestyle. Crazy. Although, somehow my DVR failed to record the episode from Sunday....going to remedy that situation right now.Nicole Fredericksnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199102720083153979.post-60938756585062100782010-10-05T10:37:59.317-07:002010-10-05T10:37:59.317-07:00I'm with you!! I live in Utah and I keep looking for landmarks to find out where they are, but they do such a good job of editing those out. I know they're only about half an hour from me though. I knew there had to be more jealousy and issues than they first led onto. In high school I actually date a kid from a polygamist family for a few months. It was one of those things I don't understand so it really draws me in. At the time he said he wouldn't want to be polygamist himself, but I can't help but wonder what his life is like today.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01742802111036737768noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9199102720083153979.post-90198361332498196632010-10-05T10:35:33.472-07:002010-10-05T10:35:33.472-07:00Emmy, curiosity got me watching the first episode,...Emmy, curiosity got me watching the first episode, too. I was intrigued. But, when I heard the audio clip "my wives wouldn't be too happy seeing me kiss my girlfriend while one of them was giving birth to my child" - and I realized just how out of God's plan this was -- on so many levels. I decided not to watch.

Don't get me wrong - it's a personal choice, and I watch many "wrong" things. Those words just really hit me hard.

But, I will be looking forward to your thoughts about the rest of the series. I think I'll stick with the "friends who are like sisters" and I'll be the only "wife" in my home!Blessed Beyond Measure x2https://www.blogger.com/profile/13442979147765427640noreply@blogger.com
